Rare Vintage Bellini Rhinestone Collared Lizard Brooch
This fabulous and rare vintage figural brooch from Bellini is crafted in layers, each layer individually cast and plated. The ornate ruffle is rhodium plated, encrusted with sparkling rhinestones, and wonderfully frilled. It is overlaid with a gold plated layer which represent the ribs in the lizards collar. Then comes the rhodium plated oval head, pave'd with yet more rhinestones and red glass eyes and mouth. This brooch is stunningly crafted, a work of art, and a true conversation piece. Bellini used a signature plaque that was soldered on after construction, and it has fallen off the brooch. You can see the area the plaque was attached if you look closely under the curved area on the back. The brooch was also confirmed by a friend, who found it in an antique mall with the original plaque still intact. This rare delight measures 3" across. This type of craftsmanship is no longer being produced as it was so very labor intensive.
